Do readers keep going after they start?
Retention asks whether people continue past the early chapters — for example, how many who start reach chapter three.
Soft retention with high bounce usually means the opening needs love: clarity, hook, pacing. It is not a shelf ranking problem.
Drop-off tells you where people leave mid-chapter; Retention tells you whether they stay in the serial at all.
